Perfume, without giving away too many spoilers

Yesterday I drove to Germany to visit hikity_2001 and to see Perfume together. I didn´t want to wait till December 14th to finally watch it so I took the 1hour and 50minutes drive to Hikity where the OV was shown.
Being with Hikity is always nice because she´s got so many interesting stories to tell. So we talked and LJ-´ed (I like to invent new words, right Hikity? *wink wink*). Then we talked some more and had dinner... and found out we were late for the movie!
We had to drive a different route to Dusseldorf and luckily it was a first time right journey so we managed to arrive perfectly in time. There still was enough time to have some drinks. Then we seated ourselves in the luxury chairs during commercials and continued chatting. After 5 minutes Hikity´s neighbour bent over and asked us "nicely" to lower our voices. We were too astonished to say WTF(?!?!?!) and Hikity "nicely" responded; "we´re still in the middle of the commercials..." Well actually it disturbed him anyhow, which made us laugh. Needless to say we continued talking.
The movie... The shots are brilliant, definately eyecatchers. You can almost sense that "the air is full of Spices" (ROFL) *winks to Hikity* Somewhere I read that Dustin Hoffman looked like a clown but I don´t share that point of view. I think he portraits Baldini very well. Ben Wishaw is awesome and very reliable in his role.
Then after 45 minutes, you first hear His voice *that voice still makes me melt and so much more* *cough* Of course this was the start for Hikity and me to pinch eachother and giggle like teenagers. You know, the wig never bothered me in contrast to the pictures. The man has a natural gift to become one with his environment. Whatever cloths he wears, he makes them look elegant and never a misfit
(notice that I leave space where I could have made a remark regarding his cloths in real life but I`m not willing to do so). Though I never read the book I have to say, much must have been cut out because there seems to be a lack in the story. I would have wanted to know more about Laura´s mother and the background story of the Richis´. The orgy was filmed very well I think. I visually kept in mind that AR stepped over several "erected" members and it made me grin during that particular part. I know we speculated about that some time ago and how tipically English he would have behaved. LOL.
After the movie we just sat down and watched all the names come by. We were the last ones leaving the cinema. Hikity then showed me Dusseldorf by car, including police-control, which was very nice. When we came home we had a lot of red wine, a lot to talk about (serious and funny) and a lot to sigh over. I think it was 3 a.m. when we saw our beds so the night was kinda short *excuses made for faults, errors and mistakes because of that* *sorry*
I don´t wanna tell you about my journey back home because it was over twice as long as driving to Germany. But, it was worth it! Thank you so much Hikity.
Hugs Peek

I'm glad you both had such a good time :)
And I can answer that thought of yours, in the book the why's of the Richis' wife's death are not explained in depth nor is his family background, what I remember is that they were rich, had a lovely house with a great ground, that the daughter was the most pretty one and that's all I can recount - maybe there's a bit more but it's nothing central in teh novel. From what I've heard the Richis' part seems to have been expanded in the film.
Thanks for the info on the book. I looked for it in my local library but couldn´t find it (someone else is reading it now I guess).

*smirks* another Alan fan maybe? ;)
And I would send you my version but it's in Spanish so I don't think you will understand it much. I hope whoever has it returns it soon :)
I would love to meet other Alan fans in my home town! If only I knew if there were any.
Thanks for your generous offer. I do understand some words in Spanish but it´s definately not enough to read an entire book! I guess I just have to be patient.

Is this a coffee shop or what?

"we´re still in the middle of the commercials..." And he answered in English (cz he heard us speaking E.)with an accent I couldn't really detect (Italian perhaps): THIS is a Cinema, not a coffee shop, rofl. I am EXCESSIVELY FOND OF THIS MOVIE! (wink, wink, Peek). While you like to invent words I like bending quotations to my will, hihi. BTW-the a.m. pic from the BUNTE has a mistake :): it should read "brilliant" not brillant. This pic is fabulous! RedTango would make something prayerish out of it I am sure. We should try an icon with sth between his hands like our heads? Yes, DH was very convincing, wonderful was the make-up (didn't they "wash themselves" just with perfume? Igitt, brrr), e.g. the white-powdered face. All actors did a great job imho - they and TT et al managed to produce a film about life in France in the 18th century, how it actually was, and not a costume drama or so-called period film. Tanja has read that Perfume already influences this year's fashion - : corseted and laced clothes(charlies up, hihihi).

"(charlies up, hihihi)." ??? My turn to ask for interpretation!LOL
Glad you had such a fun night out and the film sounds fabulous. As was said, Ww know nothing of Richis' wife in the book other than that she is dead. Richis is supposed to be nearing 40 in the book and is considering getting another wife but wants his daughter married off first.
It certainly sounds like they have added a lot to Richis' role in the story.

Thanks for the correction, see we make a perfect team. We should do that more often. *wink* I really would like to see the movie again too but will wait patiently till December. *tabs fingers*
Looking at that picture and cannot help thinking: this pinky is acting up again... :) Am sure that Catsplay could produce something VERY nice with that picture !
Actually Ben still looks like he has a smell under his nose!
Yeah, the pinky sure makes him look very British. LOL
And I have to thank you for coming! Sleep well...

What do you think about Grenouille? Do you think that his feelings and motivations were conveyed in a way that was understandable for the audience?
Absolutely. I haven´t read the book but I dare to say he did a marvellous performance. I don´t think people will sympathize for his character but he obviously had a talent and made his role a reliable one.

I just come back from the cinema where I watched it for the second time - this time in English. I still think that they didn't really manage to capture what is going on inside of Grenouille's head. I comforted myself by listening to AR's voice. ;)
I think, yes, very much so through his facial expressions and body language in general. But Vera, it is difficult to speak for a whole audience anyway. The recipients of books or films have different understandings of what they read or see, depending on their gender, class, social environment, education etc. Some might have read the book, others not. BTW, TT said sth important that evening about the importance of binary opinions and discussion. Hubby filmed it if you are interested in it, plus my question and his answer. I could record it on CD (may be with some help, :) :) :)) Most of my female friends think the OooA is ugly...how on earth is this possible. I see only beauty

Of course, no one can speak for an entire audience. I just watched the film a second time, but I'm still not convinced. I think it's beautiful to look at but doesn't manage to convey what's actually going on inside of Grenouille. Oh well.
I don't think he's ugly. I think he's a normal looking man.
Ha!She came because of me not because of the film - that was "only" an extra bonus, wasn't it, Peek? :) :) :) What does "alhoewel" mean?? Grumpy old bugger perhaps?

Right Hon right, just for you! What was the name of that movie again...???
"alhoewel" means "although"
Interesting word :).When I "reply to this" as Catsplay has commanded (pfffffff = Kisses flying to US)I don't find a button for my icons??? No virtuous PC player, I am afraid
Don´t you get to see the messageboard? Above that there is a sign which says Picture to use...
